As a person who had always been interested in yoga and its benefits, I decided to embark on a journey to Rishikesh for my Yoga Teacher Training course. Little did I know that this decision would change my life forever.


One of the main reasons why Rishikesh is considered a spiritual hub is because it is believed to be the birthplace of yoga. The sacred river Ganges flows through this holy city, adding an aura of spirituality and purity. It is also home to numerous ashrams and temples where many renowned spiritual leaders have resided or taught their disciples. The serene atmosphere and natural surroundings make it an ideal place for self-reflection and introspection.


Rishikesh also offers various traditional forms of yoga like Hatha, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Vinyasa, and more. The presence of experienced teachers who have dedicated their lives to mastering these practices makes Rishikesh an ideal destination for aspiring yogis. These teachers not only impart knowledge about physical postures but also share valuable insights into yogic philosophy and meditation techniques.

Learning about different forms and styles of yoga


In addition to the physical and mental benefits, one of the most enriching aspects of my yoga teacher training in Rishikesh was learning about the different forms and styles of yoga. Prior to my training, I had a limited understanding of what yoga truly encompasses. Through our Ashtanga classes in Rishikesh, I learned how important it is to approach each pose with intention and mindfulness.


Kundalini Yoga was another form that we studied during our training. This style focuses on awakening energy within the body through movement, breathing exercises, chanting mantras, and meditation. It also incorporates elements from other branches of yoga such as Hatha Yoga and Tantra Yoga. Kundalini was a new experience for me but proved to be an incredibly powerful tool for connecting with my inner self.


I also had the opportunity to learn about Yin Yoga during my time in Rishikesh. This slow-paced style involves holding passive stretches for extended periods while focusing on breathwork. It targets connective tissues such as ligaments and tendons rather than muscles like other forms of yoga do. Yin Yoga taught me the importance of stillness and patience, as well as how to release tension and find relaxation in challenging postures.


Apart from these traditional forms, we also explored modern styles such as Vinyasa Yoga, which emphasizes fluid movements and breath-synchronized transitions between poses. We also learned about Restorative Yoga, a gentle practice that uses props to support the body in comfortable positions for extended periods.
